The Music of Language

2015

Bronze

The Music of Language anchors the entrance to Glide Memorial Church’s family housing building with cast‑bronze words that evoke the meaning of home. Created in collaboration with a Glide‑affiliated poet, the installation reflects the organization’s radically inclusive mission and its commitment to dignity, compassion, and community in the heart of the Tenderloin. Howard’s sculptural text transforms the entryway into a threshold of welcome, using language as both material and message. The work affirms Glide’s belief that everyone deserves belonging, and that the idea of home extends beyond shelter to a shared promise of care.

Location: Glide Memorial Church Family Housing Building, Tenderloin, San Francisco
